We are currently seeking a talented and passionate Senior Game Tools Engineer to join our Developer Tools team. Position Overview
As a Senior Game Tools Engineer at arenaflex, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining the essential tools and infrastructure that power our game development process. This is a senior-level position that requires a unique blend of software engineering expertise, problem-solving abilities, and a genuine passion for enhancing developer productivity.
You will work closely with cross-functional teams across art, design, engineering, and production to understand their workflows, identify pain points, and deliver solutions that streamline our development processes. Your contributions will directly impact our ability to create high-quality games efficiently and effectively.
Key Responsibilities
- Tool Development & Maintenance: Design, build, and maintain custom development tools, asset pipelines, and engine-specific utilities that support our day-to-day game development operations.
- Workflow Analysis: Collaborate with art, design, and engineering teams to identify workflow inefficiencies, bottlenecks, and pain points in our current development processes.
- Solution Design: Work with stakeholders to generate candidate solutions, evaluate trade-offs considering project context and development timelines, and recommend optimal approaches.
- Implementation & Adoption: Implement selected solutions and actively support their adoption by ensuring proper documentation, training, and ongoing support for the development teams.
- Pipeline Development: Build and maintain custom asset pipelines that automate, optimize, and streamline the flow of assets through our production pipeline.
- Proprietary Technology: Develop and expand arenaflex's proprietary libraries, tools, and technologies across multiple game engines and platforms.
- Continuous Improvement: Proactively identify areas for improvement across all development disciplines and propose innovative solutions.
- Technical Documentation: Create comprehensive documentation, tutorials, and guides to ensure effective utilization of developed tools.
Essential Qualifications
- Experience: Demonstrated experience with the full software development lifecycle, including problem identification, solution analysis, implementation, and effectiveness evaluation.
- Programming Expertise: Strong proficiency in C#, C++, and Python programming languages.
- Tool Development Experience: Hands-on experience developing custom standalone tools that are used by multiple teams or disciplines.
- Cross-Disciplinary Tools: Experience building tools that serve various game development disciplines, including art, design, and engineering.
- Self-Directed: Capable of working effectively in a self-directed environment with minimal supervision while managing multiple priorities.
- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to understand complex systems and identify practical solutions.
- Communication: Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical team members.

Preferred Qualifications
- Game Engine Experience: Experience working with custom game engines or familiarity with commercial engines such as Unreal Engine or Unity.

- Game Industry Background: Previous experience in the video game industry, preferably in a tools or engineering capacity.
- Pipeline Architecture: Understanding of asset management systems and development pipeline architecture.
