[Remote] Senior Design Build Project Manager

The Senior Design Build Project Manager - Design Engineering is responsible for overseeing all energy project design and constructability activities during development and preconstruction phases to ensure alignment with project goals and performance expectations.

Responsibilities

• Develops overall project design approach, strategies, management and oversight
• Partners with project development and construction teams to ensure alignment of project scopes of work for client, Southland expectations and construction cost estimates
• Performs as lead engineer to ensure that projects are delivered within budget and on schedule while managing the team including HVAC, fire protection, plumbing and electric disciplines
• Refines construction scopes of work and design packages during development phases; manages internal/external design teams toward required project deliverables for construction documents from development through construction completion
• Coordinates with Project Executives and Project Managers on cost estimates, contract and procurement strategies, construction planning and risk management
• Provides input and management regarding sub-contractor design partners and vendor strategies, prequalification, scoping, pricing, and management during the preconstruction phase
• Performs site investigations and attends in-person meetings with clients, design teams, subcontractors, vendors and other project participants as required. Site visits will include data collection and evaluation of existing conditions, layouts, structures, MEP systems, equipment, components, and materials for projects with and without well-defined scopes
• Directs activities to verify installed mechanical systems, equipment, components, and materials conform to the requirements of project contract documents. Ensures conformance with standards, established design practices, applicable codes, and technical adequacy of design and construction

Skills

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or University in mechanical engineering
• Professional Engineering license required in good standing
• A minimum of 10 years of design, estimating, contracting and management experience within a consulting or design-build firm
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills to become a collaborative persuasive leader of cross functional teams and help develop favorable customer relationships. Ability to quickly problem solve and think on your feet to find solutions to problems
• Must understand the fundamental concepts and practical application of design build/design assist scope development, cost estimating and contracting
• A thorough understanding of the different trades including MEP and building construction as it relates to cost and scope with an advanced knowledge of varying building structures, architectural requirements, electrical, plumbing and mechanical systems, equipment types and applications such as Hydronics (chilled, heating hot, and condenser water), Air-side, ventilation, etc. as applicable to multiple vertical markets. This position is also expected to perform engineering tasks like a Senior Engineer, i.e. as an individual contributor
• Guide design teams towards cost effective solutions that maximize client value
• A thorough understanding of the commercial terms within a construction contract
• Experience with Revit, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office and Bluebeam based design projects
• Excellent knowledge in all conventional aspects of mechanical engineering and conducts work requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection and substantial adaptation and modification of standard mechanical engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria to lead and influence the technical design solutions on prospective projects
• Experience in the following markets: California (Title 24, HCAI, DSA), Federal Civilian and DoD, Healthcare and Labs, Central Utility Plants, Mission Critical, Industrial and logistics facilities, Higher Education Campuses, and Corporate/Mixed Use
• Excellent communication skills: articulate, assertive, and confident
• Creative and critical thinker with effective teamwork skills
• Analyze equipment energy use for optimizing systems
• Will need to travel occasionally (10-20% travel)
• This role is remote but restricted to applicants located in California
• Experience with LEED and sustainable design with LEEP AP and CEM certifications desired
• Documented experience with advanced design, and aesthetically challenging design with high profile architecture firms
