Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Lead Data Engineer to join our dynamic data platform team. In this role, you will be embedded on the Orchestration team that manages workflow scheduling packages and data ingestion infrastructure that powers the analytics, operations, and data science behind our flagship streaming platforms.
You'll get to understand the challenges of facilitating a high-quality, seamless media streaming experience across mobile, connected devices, and web, all while using the latest technologies available from AWS and beyond. As a Lead Data Engineer at arenaflex, you will play a pivotal role in building and maintaining the data infrastructure that powers our streaming services. Your technical expertise and leadership will be crucial in ensuring that our data pipelines are robust, scalable, and efficient. You'll work closely with cross-functional teams to design and implement solutions that support real-time and batch data processing, enabling analytics and operational workflows that drive business decisions across the organization.
Responsibilities and Duties
This role focuses on fundamental areas of work that are critical to our data infrastructure's success. You will be responsible for:
- Lead within a cross-functional team of engineers to build software for a large-scale data processing environment supporting real-time and batch data that underpins all analytic and operational data flows across our streaming platforms.
- Build tools and services to support data discovery, lineage, resiliency, and privacy compliance across the data platform, ensuring data governance standards are met and maintained.
- Design and develop CI/CD methods for infrastructure components that ensure high availability and agility, implementing best practices for continuous integration and deployment.
- Drive software engineering and architecture best practices within the team and wider organization, along with a culture of quality, innovation, and experimentation.
- Provide mentorship and guidance for team members; evangelize the platform, best-practices, and data-driven decisions; identify new use cases and capabilities and drive adoption.
- Collaborate with product managers and stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into technical solutions that meet business objectives.
- Participate in on-call rotations and incident response to ensure system reliability and quick resolution of production issues.
- Contribute to technical documentation and knowledge sharing across the organization to build a culture of transparency and learning.
Required Education, Experience, Skills & Training
Basic Qualifications
- 3+ years of relevant professional experience in data engineering, software engineering, or a related technical field.
- Fluent with Python and Scala programming languages, with demonstrated ability to write clean, efficient, and maintainable code.
- Deep experience deploying and running cloud-based data solutions (ideally AWS) and infrastructure-as-code frameworks like Terraform.
- Ability to dive deep into any technical issue as well as understand and drive the overall systems architecture.
- Strong focus on craftsmanship in software development, with the ability to work backwards from the customer experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related area OR equivalent professional experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
- Experience maintaining real-time data infrastructure including Kinesis or Kafka for stream processing.
- Expertise with workflow scheduler equipment including Airflow for orchestrating complex data pipelines.
- Experience with:
- Scala and Python for data processing
- Terraform for infrastructure as code
- AWS ecosystem and services
- Data modeling and ETL/ELT processes
- Data warehousing solutions like Snowflake, Redshift, or BigQuery
- Strong understanding of data privacy and compliance requirements, including GDPR, CCPA, or similar regulations.
- Experience with agile methodologies and DevOps practices in a fast-paced environment.

Compensation, Perks & Benefits
The hiring range for this role is $35 to $45 per hour. The base pay actually provided will consider internal equity and may also vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience, among other factors.
