Our client, a leading innovator in specialty chemicals, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Process Development Chemist to join their research and development team in **Grand Rapids, Michigan, US**. This hybrid role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the development and optimization of novel chemical manufacturing processes. You will be instrumental in translating laboratory discoveries into scalable, efficient, and safe industrial processes. The ideal candidate will possess a strong theoretical understanding of chemical engineering principles coupled with extensive hands-on experience in process scale-up and optimization. Your expertise will be crucial in ensuring product quality, cost-effectiveness, and environmental sustainability. Responsibilities: Design and execute experiments to develop and optimize chemical synthesis routes and purification methods. Perform process hazard analyses (PHAs) and implement safety protocols for new and existing processes. Conduct pilot plant trials to validate laboratory findings and gather data for full-scale production. Develop detailed process descriptions, operating procedures, and control strategies. Analyze and interpret experimental data using statistical methods and process modeling tools. Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing teams to ensure successful technology transfer and scale-up. Troubleshoot process deviations and implement corrective actions. Evaluate and select appropriate equipment for pilot and commercial-scale operations. Stay current with advancements in chemical engineering, process intensification, and green chemistry. Prepare technical reports, presentations, and patent disclosures. Mentor junior chemists and engineers, fostering a collaborative R&D environment. Qualifications: Ph.D. or Master's degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering. Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in process chemistry, process development, or scale-up within the chemical industry. Extensive knowledge of organic synthesis, reaction kinetics, thermodynamics, and separation techniques. Proven experience with pilot plant operations and chemical process scale-up. Familiarity with process safety management (PSM) principles and HAZOP studies. Proficiency in process simulation software (e.g., Aspen Plus, HYSYS) is a strong asset. Excellent problem-solving abilities and a data-driven approach to decision-making. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical information effectively. Demonstrated leadership potential and experience working in cross-functional teams. Experience with analytical techniques such as GC, HPLC, NMR, and MS.
