They are seeking a Lead UX Designer for their Design Systems team to shape the future of Target's digital experiences by creating reusable components and patterns that drive consistency and accessibility across products.
Responsibilities
- Partner with designers, engineers, product managers, and platform teams to identify, prioritize, and deliver reusable components and patterns that drive consistency, efficiency, accessibility, and adoption across products
- Lead the creation and evolution of components and patterns in Figma, ensuring alignment with code, design tokens, accessibility standards, governance practices, and emerging AI-enabled workflows. Create system assets that can be effectively consumed by both humans and machines
- Create and maintain documentation, usage guidance, metadata, implementation standards, and educational resources that help teams successfully adopt the system while supporting automation, tooling, and machine-readable consumption
- Collaborate closely with engineering partners to ensure system assets are accurately represented in code and support modern development workflows across platforms
- Contribute to the evolution of design system governance and architecture, ensuring the system remains scalable, maintainable, and adaptable as product creation evolves
- Evaluate emerging technologies, tooling, and AI-assisted workflows, and help teams adopt new ways of working through education, mentorship, and advocacy for systems thinking
Skills
- 6+ years of experience in design systems as a Lead UX Designer, with a portfolio demonstrating the successful evolution and adoption of large-scale, multi-platform design systems serving a broad ecosystem of products and teams
- Deep expertise in design systems, including tokens, components, patterns, governance, accessibility, documentation, and system adoption
- Experience designing, governing, and scaling component libraries in Figma across web, iOS, and Android platforms
- Strong understanding of how design systems are implemented and consumed in code, with experience partnering closely with engineering teams to bring systems to life
- Familiarity with emerging AI-assisted design and development workflows, including prompt-based interfaces, code generation, Figma Make, MCP-enabled tooling, and other technologies shaping the future of product creation
- Understanding of intent-driven design approaches and how patterns, metadata, and system structures enable consistent outcomes across human-authored, automated, and AI-assisted workflows
- Strong systems-thinking skills with the ability to balance immediate product needs with long-term platform sustainability and scalability
- Proven ability to influence strategy and drive alignment across design, engineering, product, accessibility, and platform partners
- Strong communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to advocate for systems thinking, articulate design decisions, and build support for new approaches
- Fluency in responsive design, accessibility standards, and best practices across web, iOS, and Android platforms
