The Director / VP of Finance oversees all finance and accounting operations, ensuring accuracy and compliance while supporting strategic decision-making through financial insights.
Responsibilities
- Oversees all finance and accounting operations, including budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and monthly, quarterly, and annual closing activities
- Responsible for preparing, reviewing, and analyzing financial statements and reports, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely delivery to leadership and stakeholders
- Support strategic decision-making by providing financial insights, modeling business scenarios, and evaluating investments, pricing, and product profitability
- Day-to-day tasks include managing financial controls, coordinating with external auditors, optimizing systems and processes, partnering with cross-functional teams (such as operations, sales, and supply chain), and building a scalable finance function to support PORTA’s rapid growth
Skills
- Strong Finance foundation, including experience leading financial operations and partnering with executive leadership
- Expertise in Financial Planning, including budgeting, forecasting, and long-range financial modeling
- Ability to prepare, interpret, and present Financial Statements, with a deep understanding of accounting principles
- Proficiency in Financial Reporting, including management reporting, KPI dashboards, and board-level presentations
- Advanced Analytical Skills to evaluate performance, assess risk, support strategic decisions, and drive process improvements
- Proven leadership experience managing teams and building finance capabilities in a growth-oriented company
- Professional designation (CPA, CFA, or equivalent) and a university degree
- University or college degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field
- 8+ years of progressive finance experience, ideally in CPG, food & beverage, or consumer products
- Deep FP&A expertise with a proven ability to turn data into strategic recommendations
- Strong command of retail and grocery economics, including trade spend, slotting, deductions, retailer margin, and velocity metrics
- Commercially minded, with a track record of partnering cross-functionally and influencing senior decision-makers
- Experience supporting investors, board reporting, or fundraising, ideally in an early or growth-stage company
- Hands-on and resourceful, comfortable operating with a lean team and directing analysts and outsourced support
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to make finance accessible to non-finance stakeholders
- Deadline-driven and highly organized, with strong attention to detail
- Ability to operate in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities
- Experience in CPG, food and beverage, or retail environments is strongly preferred
- MBA or CPA an asset
- Startup experience is an asset
