Position Summary
Trane Technologies has an exciting opportunity for a Lighting Project Developer within Energy Services. This role supports one of the company’s most dynamic and fast-growing solution areas by working with internal teams and customers to identify and develop turnkey lighting and controls solutions and energy savings projects.
The Lighting Project Developer is responsible for supporting project development activities from early opportunity assessment through project transition to operations. This includes scope of work development, audit coordination, cost estimating support, collaboration with technical and energy engineering resources to support savings assumptions, proposal development support, and preparation of complete preconstruction packages.
This role requires a combination of technical aptitude, project development capability, commercial awareness, and strong communication skills. Success in this role requires the ability to work across functions, understand building and lighting systems, support customer-facing development efforts, and help deliver high-quality, execution-ready project solutions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Support development of turnkey lighting and controls solutions for Energy Services opportunities
Work with internal teams and customers to identify project opportunities, define scope, and support development of energy savings-based solutions
Coordinate site audit planning, field verification activities, and organization of audit outputs
Translate customer requirements, audit findings, and site conditions into draft scope of work and project development documentation
Support project development activities using SnapCount by StreamLinx, including detailed solution creation, solution catalog maintenance, and alignment of audit findings, product selections, and proposal-ready outputs.
Support development of project cost estimates, savings inputs, and implementation assumptions in partnership with technical and energy engineering resources
Assist in development of project installation budgets and related preconstruction planning inputs
Support preparation of subcontractor and supplier request for quotation packages, including scope narratives, milestone dates, specifications, and other bid support materials
Provide technical and project development support in pursuit of Trane business, including participation in strategic project acquisition efforts as needed
Coordinate with technical design resources to align proposed fixture, controls, and system solutions with field conditions and customer requirements
Support development and management of conceptual design documents, technical narratives, and project development materials through turnover readiness
Identify constructability concerns, scope gaps, documentation issues, and project development risks early in the process
Support internal review and alignment across sales, engineering, sourcing, and operations teams
Help validate the effectiveness of project development and preconstruction processes and identify improvement opportunities
Support secured customers and opportunities from project development through transition to operations
Assist and support customer satisfaction efforts through thorough, accurate, and responsive project development
Maintain organized project files, assumptions, exclusions, clarifications, and turnover documentation
Supervisory Responsibilities
This role does not typically have direct supervisory responsibility, but it may coordinate with internal stakeholders, field audit resources, subcontractors, suppliers, and technical support personnel during project development.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
Four-year degree in Engineering, technical field, business, construction management, energy systems, or related field required; or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
Experience in project development, preconstruction, estimating support, construction coordination, lighting retrofit, building systems, or Energy Services project environments
ESCO, performance contracting, design-build, or energy project development experience preferred
Project management experience preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Working knowledge of cost and savings studies incorporating energy conservation measures
Ability to support project scoping, concept development, and validation of implementation assumptions
Ability to audit or interpret existing lighting, controls, and building-related systems and recommend practical solution approaches
General knowledge of building systems, electricity, controls, lighting applications, and construction practices
Understanding of construction methods and the ability to communicate with subcontractors and suppliers to obtain critical proposal and execution information
Ability to support development of technical scope narratives, clarifications, and system-level project requirements
Strong organizational, interpersonal, teamwork, and communication skills
Strong work ethic, self-direction, and ability to function effectively in a team environment
Ability to work regularly and dependably in a fast-paced, deadline-driven setting
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
Familiarity with Visio, AutoCAD, or other design/documentation tools is a plus
Knowledge of utility rebates, tariffs, incentive programs, or building energy analysis is a plus
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting lighting and controls retrofit projects in commercial or industrial environments
Familiarity with audit-driven scope development and preconstruction package preparation
Experience preparing vendor quote requests, subcontractor bid packages, or turnover documentation
Working knowledge of energy savings assumptions, measurement inputs, and financial/project development support documentation
Exposure to proposal development, construction document coordination, and project transition processes
Work Environment / Physical Demands
This position primarily operates in an office and hybrid work environment, with periodic travel to customer sites, project meetings, and field audit locations. Site visits may require walking active commercial or industrial facilities, observing existing building systems, and reviewing installation conditions.
Travel
Some travel is required, including occasional overnight travel depending on project and customer needs.
