Role Description We are hiring a Biomedical Data Manager to support open science efforts across the Rare Disease team, empowering community-driven efforts such as the Neurofibromatosis Open Science Initiative and related data initiatives that facilitate collaborative sharing of rare disease data. • The Mindset: • Committed to open science and collaborative research. • Values the rigor required to make shared data usable and reusable. • Adaptable and comfortable working across disciplines. • Motivated to improve workflows through emerging technologies, including AI tools. • Scope: • Partners with scientists, engineers, and community collaborators to curate and coordinate multimodal biomedical datasets. • Guides researchers through data ingestion into data hubs. • Supports the development of data models and annotations for specialized biomedical data types. • Contributes to data governance and workflow design that enable discovery-driven science. • What Success Looks Like: • Enjoys collaborating with researchers across diverse domains. • Brings strong attention to detail in curating, annotating, and organizing biomedical data. • Helps ensure shared datasets are usable, well-governed, and scientifically valuable. • Adapts to evolving project needs and contributes to a culture of learning and collaboration. Qualifications • 2+ years of experience in biomedical data management/biocuration. • Bachelor’s degree in biomedical research, health informatics, health information management, library science, genomics, neuroscience, or a related discipline. • Familiarity with biomedical data management/biocuration. • Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in biomedical research, health informatics, health information management, library science or a related discipline. • Experience working with complex multi-omic data (e.g., transcriptomics, whole genome sequencing, proteomics, metabolomics, epigenetics, clinical/phenotypic data). • Experience working on multidisciplinary teams. • Experience with biomedical data models, metadata harmonization, and ontology development or refinement. • Experience using project tracking tools such as Jira. • Familiarity with multiple disease domains (e.g., rare disease, neurodegenerative disease, cancer, immunology). • Proficiency in data management tools and techniques. • Strong organizational and time-management skills. • Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills. • Demonstrated critical thinking and thoughtful, inclusive technical practices. • Curiosity about and critical assessment of AI tools to support data management and analysis work. • Familiarity with using code to manage data and use of version control systems. Requirements • Familiarity with AWS or other cloud-based resources. • Experience presenting work to scientific audiences. • Extended periods of sitting at a desk and using a computer. • Repeated wrist, hand, and finger movements. • Requires clear vision for tasks like data analysis, transcribing, computer use, and reading. • Occasionally lifting or moving objects weighing up to 10 pounds. • Able to work effectively under deadlines. • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills. • Attention to detail and accuracy. • Flexibility to adapt to changing environments, priorities, and multitask. • Travel is required a minimum of two times per year for on-site events in Seattle, WA. • Effective verbal and written communication skills. • Works well in a team and maintains professionalism. • Follows company policies, procedures, and relevant laws and regulations.
