Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, cut, display, and sell meat products while maintaining a favorable company image and adhering to Standard Operating Procedures.
- Establish and maintain a visually appealing and well-stocked meat counter, including the preparation of distinctive meat products such as cured meats, sausages, and pre-made items.
- Conduct quality control checks to ensure products meet quality specifications and maintain a sampling program to stay up-to-date on product offerings.
- Track and prevent spoilage, and maintain a clean and sanitary work environment in compliance with WFM safety and cleanliness protocols.
- Bridge gaps in knowledge and skills of assigned Meat Cutter Trainee(s) and provide guidance and support as needed.
- Present on schedule at workstation, attired appropriately and well-groomed, and comply with fixed work schedules, mandatory training, and meeting commitments.
- Demonstrate exemplary customer service by responding to customer needs effectively, employing up-selling techniques, and answering phone calls and pages with respect.
- Advance sales possibilities by employing efficacious and precise methods to prepare, keep, swap, provide, and showcase items.
- Undertake tasks while ensuring that Weights and Measures, sanitation and hygiene norms, and secure working standards are observed as per established procedures.
- Take on assigned opening, mid, and closing duties, ensuring that pricing and signage are accurate, and report any safety concerns or violations promptly.
- Carry out other duties assigned by store, regional, or national management.
Essential Qualifications
To succeed in this role, you will need:
- A deep understanding of meat team processes and procedures, including record-keeping, labeling, tracking, and storing products in proper conditions.
- Impressive cutting skills, with the ability to segment goods into sub-primal and retail portions.
- Comprehensive knowledge of different techniques for preparing meat and seafood, as well as knowledge of various cuts.
- The ability to visually inspect articles for excellence and freshness, and extract insights on market conditions to pass on to clients.
- Robust communication skills, accompanied by a team-focused mindset, and the ability to communicate information effectively and courteously to co-workers, clients, and suppliers.
- Aptitude to adhere to formal directions and procedures, with skilled management of time and effective organization.
- An unyielding commitment to organic and non-GMO products, and a passion for natural foods.
- A demonstrated ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced setting with a sense of urgency.
- More than 14 months of retail experience.
Preferred Qualifications
While not required, the following qualifications are highly desirable:
- Previous experience working in a high-volume retail environment.
- Knowledge of WFM quality goals and a commitment to maintaining high standards.
- Experience working with a variety of tools and equipment, including box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and other heavy machinery.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
This role requires:
- The physical ability to lift weights up to 50 pounds.
- Standing or walking for 6-8 hours during an 8-hour workday.

- Bending, twisting, squatting, and reaching to perform work duties effectively.
- Exposure to FDA-endorsed cleaning agents and potential consequences on the body.
- Working in a warm (up to 90°F) and potentially damp and cold environment.
- The ability to work on flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays as needed.
- Proficient use of knives and other cutting tools, as well as a variety of tools and equipment, including box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and other heavy machinery.
