We're currently seeking an Early Career Data Scientist to join our Product Analytics team in San Francisco. Position Overview
As an early member of our Data Scientist team within the Applied Product group, you will help establish the data-driven product development culture at arenaflex. This role offers the unique opportunity to define our north-star metrics, design our initial A/B tests, and create source-of-truth dashboards that the entire organization will use to answer product-related questions. You will be a central member of the product development team building our first-party offerings.
This position is based at our San Francisco headquarters. We offer comprehensive relocation assistance to new employees joining us from across the country or around the world.
What You'll Do
In this role, you will work closely with product development teams as a trusted partner, uncovering better ways to improve our products and drive growth. Your analytical expertise will be instrumental in shaping product strategy and ensuring that every decision is backed by robust data insights.
- Embed with Product Development Teams: Partner closely with product managers, engineers, and designers to identify opportunities for product improvement. You'll serve as the trusted analytical resource for your team, proactively identifying trends, anomalies, and opportunities that might otherwise go unnoticed.
- Design and Interpret A/B Tests: Lead the design, execution, and analysis of experiments that answer critical questions about the impact of model changes and user experience modifications to our products. You'll ensure statistical rigor while delivering clear, actionable recommendations.
- Establish Data-Driven Culture: Drive the definition, tracking, and operationalization of feature-level, product-level, and organization-wide metrics. You'll help create a unified framework for measuring success across all our products.
- Create Impactful Dashboards and Reports: Develop and maintain dashboards, reports, and other tools that enable teams across the company to answer product questions in a self-serve manner. You'll make complex data accessible and actionable for stakeholders at all levels.
- Collaborate Across Functions: Work alongside product managers, engineers, researchers, and executives to translate data insights into product recommendations. Your communication skills will be key to driving alignment and action.
- Advance Analytical Methods: Go beyond traditional statistical significance testing to uncover key insights that drive product decisions. You'll bring creative analytical approaches to solve unique challenges in the AI space.
What We're Looking For
Essential Qualifications
To thrive in this role, you should have:
- 4+ Years of Experience: Experience in a quantitative role working in highly uncertain environments, ideally as a founding data scientist or product analyst at a hyper-growth product company or research organization.
- Strong Experimental Design Skills: Proven experience designing, planning, and running rigorous experiments with clear insights and product recommendations using SQL and Python.
- Metric Development Expertise: Demonstrated ability to define, implement, and operationalize new feature and product-level metrics from scratch.
- Excellent Communication Skills: Ability to communicate effectively with product managers, engineers, and leadership teams. You can translate complex technical concepts into clear business recommendations.
- Bachelor's Degree: Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field such as Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics, or related discipline.
- Beyond Statistical Significance: Ability to extract key insights that go beyond traditional paradigm of statistical significance testing, understanding the business context and practical implications.
Preferred Qualifications
You could be an especially great fit if you have:
- AI/NLP Experience: Demonstrated related experience in natural language processing, large language models, or generative artificial intelligence.
- Programming Proficiency: Strong programming background with the ability to run simulations and model variants.
- Mixed Methods Expertise: Experience validating quantitative insights with qualitative methods such as surveys and user experience research.
- Domain Knowledge: Familiarity with AI/ML product metrics and understanding of how to measure success in AI-powered products.
- Startup Experience: Experience working in fast-paced, ambiguous startup environments where you've had to build processes from the ground up.

- Technical Proficiency: Advanced SQL skills for complex data extraction and analysis. Strong Python programming abilities for data manipulation, statistical analysis, and experiment automation.

- Data Visualization: Ability to create compelling, easy-to-understand visualizations using tools like Tableau, Looker, or Python libraries.
