Job Title: Epidemiologist – Intermediate Level
Location: Hybrid (Remote with occasional office visits 1–2 times/month)
Work Schedule: 5 days per week (remote), occasional travel to other counties or conferences reimbursed for mileage
Job Summary:
This position serves as an intermediate-level professional epidemiologist, responsible for conducting a complex range of investigative and analytical epidemiologic activities related to surveillance, detection, and prevention of diseases and injuries.
The candidate will work independently or as part of a team, providing epidemiologic expertise for programs or complex analyses under the direction of senior staff.
Key Responsibilities:
• Collect, analyze, and report on healthcare-associated infections and outbreak data
• Conduct routine epidemiologic functions: surveillance, data collection, and analysis
• Assist with epidemiologic investigations for communicable and chronic diseases, injuries, and other public health conditions
• Perform statistical analyses using analytic tools and present findings through visualizations (graphs, charts, maps)
• Maintain confidentiality of sensitive datasets and reports
• Manage data using databases and tracking systems, ensuring quality control of data collection procedures
• Assist in preparing reports from analyses, literature reviews, and program evaluations
• Provide scientific and technical guidance to public, private, and nonprofit health agencies
• Participate in internal and external committees or workgroups relevant to areas of expertise
• Serve as a scientific consultant for public health programs or projects
• Make independent decisions and judgments based on professional training and experience
Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in Public Health or science-related field with up to 2 years of relevant data analysis experience OR a Master’s degree in Public Health or a science-related field
• Preference for degrees from an accredited University or School of Public Health
• Experience focused on data analysis
Required Knowledge & Skills:
• Epidemiological principles and statistical analysis methods
• Public health program administration, concepts, and techniques
• Database management, data analysis, and program evaluation
• Advanced communication skills (oral and written)
• Research methods for identifying and evaluating population health
• Critical thinking to determine public health problems and recommend interventions
• Understanding of systems and procedures for surveillance of infectious and chronic diseases
• Ability to analyze, interpret, and recommend evidence-based interventions
• Commitment to supporting a diverse, inclusive workforce
Preferred Skills & Experience:
• Experience with data visualization tools for reporting (graphs, charts, maps)
• Experience providing guidance to public health agencies or programs
• Participation in workgroups, committees, or scientific advisory roles
