About the Role
We’re hiring an Analytics Engineer – Virtual Power Plant (VPP) & Portfolio Management to help build the data products, valuation engines, and analytical frameworks that power Rhythm’s VPP and energy portfolio strategy.
This role sits at the intersection of Analytics Engineering, Energy Markets, Data Science, and Commercial Strategy, supporting both our growing Virtual Power Plant business and our broader Portfolio Management organization.
You’ll help design and scale the systems that drive battery dispatch strategy, DER valuation, load forecasting, P&L analytics, and portfolio risk insights across ERCOT and other power markets.
This is a highly cross-functional role where you’ll partner closely with VPP, Portfolio Management, Finance, Credit, Engineering, and Product teams to build production-grade analytical tools that directly influence operational and commercial decisions.
What You’ll Do
VPP, Batteries & Distributed Energy Resources
Build and maintain analytical frameworks used to evaluate battery dispatch strategies, revenue stacking, and degradation-aware optimization
Develop valuation models for batteries, solar + storage, and behind-the-meter DER configurations across multiple market scenarios
Analyze battery sizing, siting, and dispatch strategies using nodal pricing, congestion, ancillary services, and customer load patterns
Support expansion of VPP valuation and program economics models into additional ISOs/RTOs and utility programs
Incorporate ancillary service programs, demand response structures, and market settlement logic into valuation tooling
Align internal VPP and DER valuation methodologies with third-party benchmarks and industry models
Portfolio Management, Wholesale & Financial Analytics
Design and maintain software and data solutions supporting portfolio valuation, load forecasting, P&L analytics, and risk reporting
Contribute to the development of Rhythm’s in-house valuation and portfolio analytics platforms
Build distributed data pipelines and modeling workflows using Databricks, PySpark, and Delta Lake
Develop automated validation and monitoring frameworks for valuation and reporting data pipelines
Build reporting layers and dashboards for exposure tracking, VPP performance, portfolio economics, and financial risk metrics
Support integrations with ISO market feeds, telemetry systems, and other external data sources
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Technical Leadership
Partner with VPP, Finance, Product, Portfolio Management, and Credit teams to scope and deliver analytical systems and enhancements
Collaborate with Data Engineering and Software Engineering teams to improve CI/CD, deployment, and production reliability practices
Help establish scalable analytics engineering standards and best practices across the organization
Take ownership of key initiatives and provide technical leadership on high-impact analytical projects
What You’ll Bring
4+ years of experience in Analytics Engineering, Data Engineering, Quantitative Analytics, or related technical roles
2+ years of experience in retail or wholesale energy markets, ideally supporting Portfolio Management, Risk Analytics, DER, or VPP economics
Strong Python skills, including experience with pandas, numpy, PySpark, or similar analytical frameworks
Experience working with distributed data systems such as Spark, Databricks, Delta Lake, or Hive
Experience building ETL workflows, orchestration systems, and analytical data models
Strong understanding of energy markets, portfolio valuation, and risk management concepts
Experience building valuation, forecasting, P&L, or asset performance models
Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally with both technical and business stakeholders
Experience with CI/CD practices, Git, and production-quality analytics workflows
Nice to Have
Experience modeling distributed energy resources, including batteries, solar + storage, and VPP dispatch optimization
Familiarity with ancillary services markets, demand response programs, and ISO/RTO market structures
Exposure to ERCOT, PJM, NYISO, ISO-NE, or similar wholesale markets
Experience aligning internal models with third-party valuation or dispatch systems
Experience with Airflow, dbt, or Delta Live Tables
Familiarity with BI and visualization tools such as Power BI, Looker, or Tableau
Experience working in AWS or Azure cloud environments
Advanced quantitative or engineering background
What Success Looks Like
Within your first 12–18 months, success in this role will look like:
Reliable and scalable valuation frameworks supporting Rhythm’s VPP and portfolio analytics initiatives
Improved visibility into battery economics, dispatch performance, portfolio risk, and DER profitability
Automated, production-grade pipelines and reporting systems trusted across Portfolio, Finance, and VPP teams
Faster and more accurate modeling of new market opportunities, battery configurations, and program economics
Strong cross-functional trust from commercial, finance, and technical stakeholders
High-quality analytical tooling that improves decision-making across both VPP and wholesale portfolio operations
